In 2022, Europe suffered from droughts that lasted for the first three quarters of the year, causing a decline in hydropower energy production. The situation improved in 2023 when hydropower generation bounced back, reaching 637.23TWh. This is almost level with the 2020 and 2021 average of 666.5TWh.
